Designing Semi-Structured Interviews

For this project I designed a semi-structured interview focusing on representatives of two major groups. I spoke with professionals in the commercial furniture industry as well as Agile project managers/ workers.

I designed the questions to be open about the idea of a work environment, meaning work is not restricted to traditional office spaces but can be flexi-space, home office, café styles etc.

As a designer and researcher, I made the conscious decision to specifically direct my interviewees to think about the furniture and equipment that supports their work habits/methods. This helped support my intended direction and product outcome, while still being open to the varied opinions of stakeholders.

The guide I have made myself included set questions along with prompts to help direct a conversational style interview while keeping on track. While it is written in an almost scripted way with prompts, I used these as a reference only and will adlib relevant questions once in the interview.
